On the second day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…
A 2 piece no-sew blanket
And a new spot for our Christmas tree
I came across these instructions for a no-sew blanket a few weeks ago and I’ve been eager to try it ever since. If at anytime my instructions were confusing, please check out the original source. I thought it would be a meaningful Christmas gift for the little ones in my life. And not overly expensive as the fabric only cost $5!
Here’s how I made it:
You will need:
- 2 pieces of fabric
- Sharp fabric scissors
- A tape measure
Before you get started, you should wash and dry the fabric so you don’t need to worry about shrinkage once the blanket has been put together.
Keep in mind that you will lose a few inches to the ‘braiding’ process so you should cut the fabric a bit larger. Also, layer both pieces of fabric so they line up with one another.
You will want to make cuts in the fabric approximately 2 inches deep around the perimeter of the blanket. These should be 1 inch wide. You should be cutting through both layers at the same time. By the time you get to the corners, you will end up 2 inch square gaps.
You will need to make smaller vertical slits within each 1 inch section. These should be a couple centimetres in length, mid-way through.
Pull one of the 1 inch sections from the bottom layer through the smaller slit in the top layer. Then pull the 1 inch section from the top layer to the right through the slit of the bottom layer. Continue this all the way around. When you get to the corner, just continue this process with the first 1 inch section from the adjacent side.
There you have it! The whole process took about 2 hours but an hour and a quarter of that was all the cutting. So. Much. Cutting. The actual braiding only took about 45 minutes. I have enough fabric to make 5 more of these so hopefully I’ll get faster with experience!
Check back tomorrow for Day 3 of my 12 Days of Christmas series!
