Throwback DIY: Wedding Invitations

In case you missed yesterday’s post, in honour of mine and M’s 5 year anniversary this week, I am sharing some DIY project from our wedding back in 2009.

Yesterday I posted about our Save the Date magnets which I was able to make for less than $20.  Today, I’m going to show you the invitations we DIYed.

We used Cards & Pockets to buy all our supplies which consisted of pocket folders (in gingko – a soft green), invitation mats (in silver), envelopes (also in silver) and RSVP envelopes (in basic white).  5 years ago, we paid $200 for these supplies for 100 invitations.

I used Publisher to design the invitation including all the different inserts and was fortunate enough to have a friend who did all the printing for free.

After assembling the invites, we jazzed them up with some dollar store embellishments.

As a little bit of an aside, we included information about a non-traditional element to our reception we wanted our guests to support on the RSVP envelopes.  Rather than the traditional clinking of glasses to encourage the bride and groom to kiss, we asked for small change donations and called it “Kiss for a Cause”.  By the end of the night we has raised over $100 for the charities of our choosing.
