Homemade Foaming Antibacterial Hand Soap

For the last couple weeks, we have been using homemade hand soap in the bathroom.

When I first made this, I was a little weary of how this would hold up to regular soap. I decided to give it a try because the ingredients were all-natural and this was much cheaper than store-bought soap (more on the cost savings at the end of the post!) The smell is slightly medicinal due to the blend of essential oils used but that is my only complaint!

This ‘recipe’ came from One Good Thing by Jillee.

Step 1: Gather your ingredients

I used:

  • Castile soap (purchased from a local nutrition store)
  • Fractionated coconut oil (purchased online from Plant Therapy)
  • Essential oil (I used Germ Fighter Synergy Blend from Plant Therapy for its antibacterial properties)
  • An old foaming soap container

Step 2: Add everything to your foaming soap container

Here are the measurements you’ll need:

  • 2 tbsp castile soap
  • 1 tsp fractionated coconut oil
  • 10-15 drops of essential oil

Step 3: Add water

Fill the remainder of your soap container with water and you are ready to go!

Putting this together took way less time that a trip to the store to buy soap 🙂

Plus, you use so little of all the ingredients that it doesn’t cost much to make this soap.

I used $0.54 worth of castile soap, $0.34 worth of fractionated coconut oil and $0.80 worth of essential oil bringing the grand total to… $1.68/bottle! A bottle lasts our family about a week and a half.

This morning I also tried my hand at homemade shampoo. I’ll let you know how it goes!
